Halloween Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Spatula
- Scissors or shaping tools for candy decorations
- 4-quart non-stick saucepan or pot
Ingredients
- 1 pacakge mini marshmallows
- 6 mini green airheads or green fondant
- Orange gel food coloring
- Non-stick cooking spray
- 3 tbsp salted butter
- 3 pretzel rods, end portions broken off into 2-inch pieces
- 6 cups rice krispies cereal
Instructions
- Start by measuring the Rice Krispies cereal and placing it in a large mixing bowl.
- In a non-stick saucepan or pot (about 4 quarts), melt the butter over medium-low heat.
- Add the marshmallows, stirring continuously.
- As they begin to melt, gradually mix in the orange gel food coloring, adjusting until you reach your desired shade.
- Stir until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the pot from the heat and immediately pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies.
- Gently fold and stir the mixture with a spatula until the cereal is fully coated.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly, just until it's cool enough to handle with your hands.
- Spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray and shape the Rice Krispie mixture into baseball-sized balls.
- Insert a pretzel rod into the top of each ball to create the pumpkin stem, adjusting the shape as needed.
- Place the shaped pumpkins on a lightly greased plate or dish to prevent sticking.
- Using scissors or your hands, cut leaf shapes from the Airhead candy (or mold the fondant).
- Roll the remaining candy into thin ropes and twist them into vine shapes.
- Attach the candy leaves and vines around the pretzel stems for decoration.
- Repeat the process for the remaining pumpkins, and store them in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
Notes
- Get creative by using green fondant, taffy, or other candies to form leaves and vines.
