  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Stir in boiling water.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
