Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
