KINGS CAKE RECIPE

Introduction:

Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 plastic King Cake baby (optional)
  • Green, purple, and yellow colored sugars for decoration

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nuts, and raisins.
  3. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry into a 12-inch square on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Spread the sugar and nut mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  5. If using, place the plastic King Cake baby somewhere in the filling.
  6. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
  7. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry into a 12-inch square and place it on top of the filled pastry.
  8. Press the edges together to seal the cake and trim any excess pastry.
  9. Brush the top of the cake with the remaining beaten egg.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the cake is golden brown and puffed up.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before decorating with colored sugars in alternating rows.
