GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE

Introduction:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting by combining the butter, evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract in a saucepan over medium heat.
  7. Cook the frosting mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens, about 10-12 minutes.
  8. Remove the frosting from the heat and stir in the pecans and coconut.
  9. Once the cakes are done baking, allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Spread the frosting between the cake layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
