Introduction:

This Tres Leches Cake recipe is a classic Latin American dessert that is incredibly moist, rich, and decadent. The combination of three different types of milk makes this cake irresistibly delicious. It’s perfect for any special occasion or simply as a sweet treat for yourself!

Preparation time: 20 minutes | Cooking Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 50 minutes | Serves: 12

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 oz can evaporated milk
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup rum (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Gently fold in the flour mixture until well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold the egg whites into the batter until just incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the cake is baking, mix together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and rum (if using) in a bowl.
  8. Once the cake is done, poke holes all over the top with a fork and pour the milk mixture over the cake, making sure to cover evenly.
  9. Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the milk mixture to soak in.
  10. Serve chilled and enjoy!
